It has often been presented as religion versus science when speaking of creation vs the big bang theory. But is that a true presentation of the facts? In this article we shall begin a comparative analysis of the two theories and see which is really more scientific.
The big bang
Just in case you are not familiar with the theory call “The Big Bang”, we shall give you a quick summary of what is involved with it. It is stated this way. Once there was nothing. Then, all of a sudden “something” exploded and expanded into what is called the universe. It continued to expand until we arrive at today and observe what we call our universe. Contained in this universe, which came from nothing, we find all the elements which make up all the stars and planets and asteroids and solar systems and galaxies which can be observed. All of this came from nothing.
Over billions of years these elements evolved from microscopic particles which came together to form atoms, the smallest being that of hydrogen. Over time hydrogen atoms began to clump together and formed stars which grew and exploded to form heavier atoms such as helium. These continued to clump together to form even more elements until there came a point at which they could no longer combine. But the problem was solved when stars began to explode and the explosion forced elements which would normally not combine to be joined together to create what are called the heavy elements. From then on more and more explosions created heavier and heavier elements.
So, through billions and billions of years stars exploded causing the formation of planets and other observable entities throughout space. The amount of objects and space which came about is immense in its estimation. And all of this, according to the promoters of “The Big Bang”, came from nothing.
When pressed on the issue they will concede that there was a “singularity”, whatever that may be, which was the progenitor of “The Big Bang”. They say that the “singularity” was probably not bigger than a period on this page. I am sure that the entire foundation for “The Big Bang” is more complex than is stated here, but the complexity which is added is merely a “smoke screen” of scientific terms meant to cover the lack of real science which does not support the theory.
Though there are several theories presented for different versions of creation, the version we shall use is the one presented in The Holy Bible.
The version presented in The Bible begins by stating “In the beginning God..”. Instead of a singularity, God, The Creator, is the source of all things in creation. The Bible goes on to describe the order of creation and how it was accomplished over six 24 hour days. Instead of the universe and all that is in it taking billions of years to develop through random accidents and evolutionary processes, everything was created in its completed and mature form. Living things were endowed with the information to produce after its own kind and adapt to any conditions it might encounter.
All laws of physics, chemistry and mathematics were established and set in place by the Creator. They continue to operate throughout the creation even until today.
The big bang and how it relates to real science
The “Big Bang” came about because as real scientists expounded on the known laws of science they concluded that because the second law of thermodynamics(all systems increase in entropy) cannot be overcome, that means all systems are winding down. There will come a time that there will be no more usable energy. That being the case, logically there had to be a time when the system was “winded up with usable energy”. Hence, there was a time in the past when there was a beginning. Rather than concede the beginning of the Bible, they dreamed up “The Big Bang”. This was an attempt to provide a beginning without a Creator.
Still, there was a problem. They had a singularity. To account for this they had to add a previous universe which had collapsed into a singularity from which came our universe when it exploded. So, in essence, they merely moved the proof back to another universe and another time. This may be science, but it is science fiction. There is no observable means by which this could happen given the laws of science.
Real science says that a gas in a vacuum continually expands. It does not clump together. The Big Bang says that there were no atoms and no elements in the original “explosion”. If the laws of science were set in motion at that time then the parts which form an atom would never have come together to form atoms. That should be the end of the story. But big bangers insist that it happened. But even if atoms formed they would not clump together. Even though they claim that gravity would cause them to clump together we know by the law stated above about gases that the would never happen.
Still, there is the law of cause and effect which big bangers must address if they are to prove their theory. The law of cause and effect states simply that “the cause is always greater than the effect”. So, according to the big bangers the energy contained in the singularity from which the universe exploded is more than the energy we estimate to be contained in the entire universe. From where did the singularity get all that energy? What force compressed that energy into a particle no bigger than a period on this page? Why could that force not keep the energy contained?
It seems that “The Big Bang” only produces questions, not universes.
How does Biblical creation stack up when held up to science?
“In the beginning God..” In this beginning phrase of the Bible we can see the establishment of the source of energy and the start of time. The source, or cause, is God, the Creator. The “ad hoc” assumption, or axiom, is that God exists. He is infinite, omniscient, omnipotent.
By being infinite He is outside of time and therefore can establish and control time. By being omniscient He is all knowledge and knows everything. By being omnipotent He is all powerful and nothing is impossible for Him.
As regard to the second law of thermodynamics the Bible declares in Psalm 102, Isaiah 50 and 51 that the earth and the heavens shall wax old as a garment. The creation model agrees with scientific law whereas the big bang does not.
In this first phrase we also find the establishment of time, “the beginning”. The big bangers had to hand the ball off to a previous universe rather than address their lack of ability to establish a “beginning”. An infinite being therefore has the ability to establish “time” and to control it. It would take over 60 centuries before a human would begin to see the intertwining of space and time and matter.
As to the law of cause and effect we saw that the big bangers had no answer. But a Being that is omnipotent, all powerful, Who is outside His creation, can by definition infuse as much power as is necessary to establish and maintain His creation. Here, again, the Biblical account of creation lines up with the established laws of science.
In conclusion let us consider this question. If a scientific hypothesis does not conform to the known and established laws of science, should we even allow it to be taught as such? That is not to say that it should not be acknowledged, but that it should not be taught as if it were established science.
No matter what the subject, even if it is promoted as consensus, present the facts without bias and let the conclusions be logical and truthful. Because of the invasion of secular materialistic humanism into scientific circles we have been inundated with false and misleading conclusions in many scientific areas.
In presenting all scientifically valid views and then teaching how to critically analyse them we can come to sound understanding instead of politically correct conclusions.
